Did anyone think the whole McCourt saga could get any stranger? The divorce settlement between Frank and Jamie McCourt is in jeopardy, after Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig rejected the proposed television contract between the Dodgers and Fox Sports, saying it represented the “further diversion of Dodgers assets for personal needs.” As part of a divorce settlement, the television deal would have provided an upfront payment of $385 million, of which $173.5 million would have gone to the McCourts and their lawyers. Baseball officials had previously requested that any upfront payments from the deal be used for the team. If Frank McCourt cannot make the Dodgers’ June 30 payroll, Selig can put the team up for sale. A source close to McCourt has indicated that he has “no chance” of making payroll without the money from the television deal.
