The Los Angeles Police Department misclassified some 14,000 serious assaults as minor offenses over an eight year period, according to a new report from the Los Angeles Times. This has skewed data, falsely lowering the city's crime levels. With accurate reports accounted for, violent crime was actually 7 percent higher and serious assaults were 16 percent higher.
