The Los Angeles and New York police departments are adding extra patrols near mosques following the mass shooting at two mosques in Chirstchurch, New Zealand, on Thursday that left at least 49 people dead. “The Los Angeles Police Department continues to monitor the events in New Zealand closely and the thoughts and prayers of the men and women of the LAPD go out to everyone affected by this horrific incident,” the LAPD said in a statement. “While this appears to be an isolated incident with no apparent threat to Los Angeles, out of an abundance of caution we will be adding patrols around mosques here in the city.” Back east, the NYPD said it is also “closely monitoring” the shootings and added that extra security is being deployed at different mosque locations around the city. In New Zealand, four suspects are in custody after the shootings.
