LAPD Slammed For ‘Django’ Star Arrest

After black Django Unchained actress Daniele Watts’ story of being arrested by Los Angeles cops while kissing her white boyfriend got national attention, the police department has responded. LAPD said they were responding to a neighbor’s call regarding indecent exposure when they cuffed Watts, who was wearing gym shorts and a T-shirt, in Studio City, California. The call was apparently made in response to Watts and her boyfriend, Brian Lucas, kissing in a silver Mercedes. Watts was handcuffed when she refused to give the cops her identification. She posted a video of the incident on her Facebook page, saying “Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers… after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place.” The LAPD says it has started an internal investigation into the incident. Just a few weeks ago, Beverly Hills police arrested Charles Belk, a black film producer attending a pre-Emmys party. The department called it “extremely unfortunate.”
