SNL’s cold open may have featured Larry David appearing once again as Bernie Sanders, but it did not include any glimpse of host Donald Trump.
We had to wait until the monologue to see The Donald make his case to the nation as to why it’s not a batshit crazy idea for him to spend 90 minutes hosting a sketch comedy show. And he was joined by not only Taran Killam but also Darrell Hammond, each trying to one-up each other with their impressions of the former GOP frontrunner.
Things were going well enough until a familiar voice from off-stage could be heard yelling, “You’re a racist!”
“I knew this was going to happen, who is that?” Trump asked as the camera cut to Larry David, out of his Sanders costume, standing in the wings.
“Trump's a racist!” he yelled again. “I heard if I yelled that they'd give me $5,000,” David added, alluding to the Deport Racism PAC that promised a bounty for anyone who would disrupt Trump on live TV.
“Hey look, as a businessman, I can fully respect that,” Trump admitted before promising a “great show.”
