Disgraced gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar and a former trainer he worked with at Bela and Martha Karolyi’s gymnastics training ranch face sexual assault charges in Texas, according to NBC News. Nassar was charged with six counts of sexual assault, while the trainer, Debbie Van Horn, was also charged with one count of sexual assault. The charges stem from six former patients who were treated at the ranch in the early 2000s. The Karolyis were cleared of any “criminal wrongdoing,” which comes as a disappointment to some of the victims, who claim the Karolyis turned a blind eye to the abuses that were happening at the ranch, which was used as a USA Gymnastics training center, NBC News reports. Martha Karolyi, a longtime team coordinator for USA Gymnastics, said that she did not feel responsible for the abuses but felt “extremely hurt that this thing happened.” Nassar, who has been accused of sexual abuse by hundreds of women, was sentenced to a maximum of 175 years in prison in January.
