Laura Dern won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of a cutthroat Los Angeles divorce lawyer in Marriage Story. Dern has been nominated for Oscars twice before, but this is her first win. She was up against Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie, and Kathy Bates in the category. In her acceptance speech, she paid tribute to her parents: “I share this with my acting heroes, the legends Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern.”
