Watch out, HBO: In a big coup for Showtime, the TV network announced that Monday night’s premiere episode of The Big C—a dark comedy about cancer starring Laura Linney—scored the pay channel’s biggest audience in eight years for an original series debut. The show attracted 1.154 million viewers during its 10:30 p.m. EST premiere slot, and another 429,000 viewers during its 11:30 p.m. replay for a nightly total of 1.583 million viewers. The show, which has received solid reviews, was broadcast online two weeks ago and has since received 1.6 million views.
