Lauryn Hill is getting her education the hard way. The soulful Grammy winner was sentenced to three months in prison and three months under house arrest for failing to pay taxes on almost $1 million. The 37-year-old singer pled guilty, testifying that she meant to pay, but wasn’t able to when she dropped out of the music business. According to Hill’s attorney, she later paid $970,000 on state and federal tax liabilities. “I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that,” she said on Monday.
