A former lawyer for the doctor who helped the U.S. locate Osama bin Laden was shot and killed Tuesday in Pakistan, local police said. Samiullah Afridi was killed by unidentified gunmen on a motorbike in the northwestern city of Peshawar. Jamaatul Ahrar, a faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility. Afridi was helping Dr. Shakil Afridi, who has no relation to the lawyer, appeal a conviction by a tribal court for his role in a fake vaccination program in 2011. The program was part of a CIA plot to collect DNA samples from residents at a compound where bin Laden was found. The lawyer left the case in 2014 due to threats to his life and briefly spent time in the U.A.E. before returning to Pakistan.
