Maj. Nidal Hasan is trying to get himself sentenced to death, according to a lawyer on his standby legal team. Yesterday Hasan told the jury that he shot and killed 13 soldiers at Fort Hood and that he had switched sides in a war between the U.S. and Islam. Hasan is representing himself, but he still has a standby defense team, which today asked for a reduced role in the case, claiming that Hasan was trying to get the death penalty and that helping him reach that goal was “repugnant.”
