After an embarrassing defeat at the voting booth on Thursday, Scotland’s first minister, Alex Salmond of the Scottish National Party, is resigning. In a speech Friday, Salmond declared, “For me as a leader, my time is nearly over but for Scotland the campaign continues and the dream shall never die.” He also warned that Scots should already be wary, as he believes British Prime Minister David Cameron is already reneging on promises made to voters if Scotland voted to stay in the union. “We lost the referendum vote but can still carry the political initiative. More importantly, Scotland can still emerge as the real winner,” he said.
