The diary Heath Ledger kept during the filming of The Dark Knight is unveiled in a clip for a new documentary series, revealing the troubling lengths the actor went to to portray the character. Ledger, 28, died of a drug overdose months before the film was released, where he played the anarchic villain the Joker. He was posthumously awarded an Oscar for the role. In the clip, Ledger’s father, Kim, flips the pages of the diary and says his son “liked to dive into his characters, but this time he really took it up a notch.” The diary features collages from A Clockwork Orange, his makeup test, and the final pages features the words “BYE BYE.” “It was hard to see this,” his father says in the clip.
