Despite her unabashed support for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, actress and writer Lena Dunham privately expressed doubts about the former first lady’s feminist credentials. According to The New York Times, the Girls creator and star told guests at a private party hosted by HBO Chief Executive Richard Plepler that “she was disturbed by how, in the 1990s, the Clintons and their allies discredited women who said they had had sexual encounters with or been sexually assaulted by former President Bill Clinton.” The conversation was relayed to the Times by anonymous sources familiar with the conversation, and a rep for the actress claimed it was a “total mischaracterization.”
