Sometimes, parents can be crueler than their teenage children. To recap: A high school in Mississippi made national headlines when it canceled the school prom after a lesbian student, Constance McKinnen, tried to bring a date. A judge said that the school could not bar McKinnen, with the understanding that she would be allowed to attend the new prom that parents were planning. However, McKinnen now says she was misdirected instead to a “fake prom,” which only five other students attended; meanwhile, the rest of the high school partied elsewhere at the parent-organized prom. "They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them," McMillen tells The Advocate. "The one that I went to had seven people there, and everyone went to the other one I wasn’t invited to." McKinnen says that she tried to ask other students for information about the larger prom, but that she was misdirected.
