Letterman Wasn't In on Phoenix's Joke

Joaquin Phoenix and David Letterman met again Wednesday on The Late Show With David Letterman, but this meeting had completely different results from last year’s curious stint. Phoenix thanked Letterman for letting him appear last year, and the talk-show host confronted him for putting on an elaborate breakdown to promote his mock documentary, I’m Still Here. The film’s director Casey Affleck confirmed on The Tonight Show Tuesday that Letterman was not in on the ruse, and Phoenix admitted to Letterman’s audience that the host had known nothing about it. Although Letterman asked Phoenix, “What do you have to say for yourself?” he went easier on the actor and said last year’s interview was “so much fun.”
