Lewinsky: I Was Suicidal

Monica breaks her silence.

Oh, to be in Chappaqua this morning with the Clintons. Sixteen years after Monica Lewinsky became a household name for her affair with Bill Clinton, she has decided to open up to Vanity Fair. “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress,” she writes. While Lewinsky stresses it was a “consensual relationship,” despite the major power difference, she reveals she was taken advantage of in other ways. Lewinsky said she was suicidal in 1998 after she “was made a scapegoat in order to protect his [Clinton’s] powerful position.” She says the 2010 suicide of Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers freshman who was secretly filmed kissing a man, inspired her to come forward now to help victims of online harassment and bullying.
