This may be as low as 1 percent of the actual birth rate in the country. In 2013, before Ebola ravaged the country, the country registered 79,000 new babies. This dropped to 48,000 the next year, when many health facilities closed in response to the Ebola outbreak. Without registration, children won’t be able to access basic services and could be put at risk of trafficking.
