The terminal of Libya’s main airport was hit by several shells in an attack by rebels in Tripoli on Thursday, the city’s fifth day of fighting between rival groups. Fighting between brigades from the towns of Misrata and Zintan have turned Tripoli International Airport into a battleground since Sunday. In a separate bout of violence, Fariha al-Barkawi, a former member of parliament, was assassinated in the eastern city of Derna, according to officials. She is the country’s second prominent woman to be assassinated, after Benghazi human-rights activist Salwa Bugaighis was killed last month.
