X-Men spinoff Logan, starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, exceeded expectations in its debut weekend, raking in a massive $83.5 million in North American theaters. The 20th Century Fox film now ranks among the biggest March openings in history. Logan is Jackman’s final performance as the character after 17 years, he has said. The film sold an additional $152 million tickets overseas in its debut weekend. “On a global scale, we’ve exceeded all pre-release expectations,” Fox distribution chief Chris Aronson said. Moonlight also did well this weekend, with a significant Oscar bump. The film had its best weekend since its opening, taking in an estimated $2.5 million, for a domestic total of $25.3 million.
