London Building Melts Cars

Can also fry eggs.

The owners of a 37-story skyscraper known as the Walkie Talkie building in London are investigating how a beam of light reflecting off the structure is so strong that it’s melting cars. Officials, who have blocked off three parking spaces near the building, have said the ray depends on the position of the sun and will last about two hours a day at this time of year. Land Securities and Canary Wharf Group said they believe the light will last for two or three more weeks and are working on a long-term solution for the problem. Meanwhile, a local paper, which has reported that the building has also set a carpet on fire, used the light beam to fry an egg in a demonstration that had what looks like delicious results.
