London police confirmed that a large boom heard over the city in the early morning hours was from Royal Air Force planes. Social media filled up with posts from Brits wakened by what many feared was an earth-shaking explosion. But police confirmed that there was no blast or threat to public safety. “The loud bang heard throughout north London and surrounding areas was the result of a sonic boom from RAF planes. There is no cause for concern,” they said in a tweet.
