Look, I See Some Pigs in the Air!
If Obama wins, Republicans might agree to tax hike. This really is a game-changer.
This is a huge story in today's Washington Post in which Hill Republicans are saying they suspect they'll have no choice but to agree to tax increases if Obama wins. Check out this quote:
“We’re not going to save our defense unless we go along with the president’s wishes to raise taxes on small business,” said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a leader of the tea party movement. “It’s not a good choice. I would never support it. . . . [But] there are enough Republicans, I think, who are so afraid of defense cuts that they would probably give in.”
That's a pretty huge wow in my universe. I never would have thought it possible. I'm still not sure it is.
But if it happens, if it even has a chance of happening, remember: No Republican member of Congress or senator has voted for a tax increase since 1990! This really would be a game-changer. And boy would it start a fun war inside the GOP. But seriously, it would mean that Obama had managed something pretty remarkable. In over his head, eh?
