At the request of federal prosecutors, Jared Lee Loughner’s trial will be held in Tucson rather than Phoenix, as previously planned. The move was requested to make it easier for victims of the shooting and witnesses to attend the trial. Loughner is charged with attempting to kill Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and two of her aides, but more charges are expected—the shooting in Tucson he is alleged to have committed left six dead and 13 wounded. Loughner’s lawyers chose not to contest moving the trial to Tucson in order to avoid aggravating the victims in the event the death penalty becomes a prospective outcome for Loughner. A San Diego judge will be presiding.
