On Wednesday, the Republican-controlled Louisiana State Legislature passed a version of the anti-abortion bill spreading throughout the South. The bill, which requires that doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, could force three of the state's five abortion clinics to close. Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas have already passed similar laws. “With similar restrictions passed in neighboring states over the objection of leading medical experts, we are deeply concerned that women in a vast stretch of this country are in real danger of losing the ability to access legal abortion safely,” Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood said. Republican Governor Bobby Jindal said he plans to sign the bill.
