Shocking absolutely no one, researchers at Duke University have found that it was lower levels of testosterone in modern humans which made them more civilized and led to the creation of civilized societies. Researchers were investigating the gap between modern humans’ evolution 200,000 years ago and when they began to use tools and create art 50,000 years ago. “The modern human behaviors of technological innovation, that led to art and rapid cultural exchange, probably came at the same time that we developed a more cooperative temperament,” said the study’s lead author, Robert Cieri. Researchers came to the conclusion after studying 1,400 ancient and modern skulls and their changing facial structures. Less testosterone in males led to softer facial features, such as less prominent brows and rounder heads.
