Police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old Louisiana State University student who died Thursday after an undisclosed “medical emergency” at a fraternity house. The student, identified as Maxwell Raymond Gruver, was taken from the Phi Delta Theta fraternity to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. “Police are investigating this case as a potential hazing incident involving Phi Delta Theta fraternity,” Ernie Ballard, the university’s media director, said Thursday. LSU President F. King Alexander said alcohol was thought to be a factor in Gruver’s death, though he provided no further details. All Greek activities on campus have been suspended while authorities investigate Gruver’s death, Alexander said. The coroner’s office said an autopsy will be conducted on Friday.
