An unidentified man climbed Washington D.C.’s National Christmas Tree on Friday night, local news station WUSA reports. U.S. Park Police reportedly confirmed a man climbed the Christmas tree just south of the White House, and came down on his own at just before 7:00 p.m. after officials “negotiated” with him. According to police, the man was transported to a hospital for a “mental health evaluation.” It is currently not known why the man climbed the tree, or how he did it. Some lights on the tree were reportedly damaged during the incident, and it is unclear if the man will face charges. The area surrounding the tree will reportedly remain closed for the rest of Friday evening.
