Man Collecting Food for the Needy Killed

GOOD SAMARITAN

Run over by a carjacker.

A man collecting food for a soup kitchen was killed on Friday when a thief stole his car and ran him over, police said on Saturday. 69-year-old Dionel Ramirez, of Long Island, New York, had parked his Hyundai in front of a 7-Eleven in the pre-dawn hours of Friday, to collect the store’s extra food to give away. He left the car door open and the engine running. When a man jumped into the car and started to drive away, Ramirez attempted to block the thief’s path. The thief did not stop, however, and ran Ramirez over. The victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The car was found abandoned that afternoon and police are still searching for the man who stole it.
