Khairuldeen Makhzoomi, a researcher at UC Berkeley, was allegedly removed from a Southwest flight from Los Angeles to Oakland after speaking Arabic on the phone. “She kept staring at me and I didn’t know what was wrong,” Makhzoomi said of the woman who reported him. “Then I realized what was happening and I just was thinking ‘I hope she’s not reporting me.’” Southwest acknowledged that he was removed due to “potentially threatening comments made aboard our aircraft," but said they don't tolerate discrimination.
