Man Dies of Bird Flu in China

The Chinese bus driver who was diagnosed with bird flu has died. He was China's first case of bird flu in more than a year. Several chickens in Hong Kong tested positive for the virus, prompting authorities to cull 17,000 birds and ban the sale and import of live chickens for three weeks. But the recent victim had not been in contact with chickens, nor traveled recently. Bird flu is extremely deadly—killing up to 60 percent of humans infected—but so far only travels from birds to humans, not between humans. The U.S. government recently asked scientists to censor research that showed a way to make the virus spread between people.
