A Washington, D.C. man falsely accused of the rape and murder of a woman in 1982 had his name cleared on Monday. Kevin Martin spent 26 years behind bars after DNA evidence contradicted findings linking him to the crime scene. Martin has lived in San Francisco on parol since 2009. “I am free at last. I am humbled. I never gave up,” he said. In the past five years, there have been five cases in which federal prosecutors traced a wrongful conviction back to errors by an elite FBI forensic unit.
