A man who shot himself in front of the White House on Saturday was pronounced dead a short time after the incident sparked panic in the area. The White House was temporarily on lockdown as the Secret Service responded to reports of shots fired near the north lawn shortly after 12 p.m. The Secret Service said a man had "allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound," and authorities later said he'd been pronounced dead. The man's identity has not yet been released. Authorities are working to notify his family of the incident. President Trump was not at the White House at the time of the incident, having departed earlier for his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
