Man Treats Hernia With Butter Knife

Says he was tired of waiting for surgery.

Maybe James Franco can play him in a movie. A 63-year-old man in California stabbed himself with a butter knife in an attempt to fix his hernia. He then put a cigarette lighter in the wound. "I don't know if it was an attempt to cauterize or anything," said one of the police officers called to the man's house. His wife called police after he told her he was frustrated with his hernia and didn't want to wait any longer, and stabbed himself in the abdomen. He was taken to a hospital, where he was put on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. The hospital is expected to fix his hernia.
