A man riding an “electronic wheelchair-type scooter” set his jacket on fire in front of the White House on Friday afternoon, according to the Secret Service. In a tweet, the agency said uniformed officers immediately put out the fire along the White House’s North Fence and gave first aid to the man. NBC Washington reported that agents found a “suspicious package” near the man, and the man suffered from “mental health issues.” The incident reportedly posed no threat to the president, and the injuries the man sustained do not appear to be life-threatening. In response to the incident, Secret Service reportedly cleared the White House’s North Lawn, Lafayette Square, and the sidewalk in front of the White House.
