Police in Texas are searching for an unidentified white man who allegedly opened fire on a black family leaving a Walmart parking lot on Sunday morning, killing a 7-year-old girl in front of her mother and three other young girls believed to be her sisters. In a statement on Twitter, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the slain child as Jazmine Barnes. Her mother, identified as 30-year-old LaPorsha Washington, was wounded in the incident but expected to survive, while one other girl was injured by shattered glass. “A total of 5 occupants in the car witnessed this innocent child, their loved one, shot and killed before their eyes. So senseless. It’s never easy, and extra hard during the holiday season,” Gonzalez said. The suspect has been identified only as a white male in his 40s who was driving a red pickup truck. Police have not yet determined a motive, saying only that the gunman pulled up next to the family’s vehicle and began firing inside as they were leaving the parking lot.
