The lawyer for Pfc. Bradley Manning, the Army intelligence analyst accused of leaking classified materials to WikiLeaks, demanded that the judge recuse himself from the hearing because of the judge’s connections to the Department of Justice. Manning, 23, faces charges including aiding the enemy, which could carry a sentence of life imprisonment. Manning, who turns 24 tomorrow, could see his pretrial hearings run through Dec. 23. Hundreds of Manning supporters are expected to appear on his behalf outside the proceedings, taking place at Fort Meade, Md. Manning was appearing in public for the first time since his arrest in May 2010.
