Maria Sharapova Named in India Housing Fraud Probe

Tennis champion Maria Sharapova is being investigated in India as part of a an alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy after a luxury housing project she endorsed fell through, Yahoo Sports reported Tuesday. She travelled to India in 2012 to launch a luxury high-rise apartment complex in her namesake along with the Homestead Infrastructure Development company. Prospective buyers were told the complex would include a tennis academy, clubhouse, and helipad. The project, however, was abandoned before its projected 2016 completion date after builders had collected millions of dollars from buyers.
