American Figure Skater Accused of Slashing South Korean Rival on Purpose
COLD, IF TRUE
An American figure skater has been accused of intentionally colliding into a 16-year-old Korean rival and slashing her calf with her skate during a warm-up session at the World Figure Skating Championships in Japan. Mariah Bell is accused of striking Lim Eun Soo. According to Lim’s management agency, All That Sports, Bell skated up to the South Korean from behind and kicked her left calf. Her agency said: “It seems it was intentional, considering how Bell came from behind.” The agency also claimed that Bell had been bullying Lim for months—they’re reportedly both training in Los Angeles under the same coach. Despite her injury, Lim went on to set a personal high in her first senior world championships with 72.91 points and ranked fifth. Bell, 22, scored 71.26 points to place sixth. All That Sports said that it has asked the Korea Skating Union to lodge a formal complaint.
