Col. Muammar Gaddafi and his family just wanted to hear pop music, but some of the biggest celebrities are distancing themselves from him. Mariah Carey became the latest to publicly regret singing for the dictator and his family, saying Thursday that she was “naïve and unaware” who was paying her $1 million fee. “I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess,” Carey said in a statement. Beyoncé’s publicist said Wednesday that the singer had donated all the money she received for a 2009 New Year’s Concert in St. Barts to earthquake relief in Haiti.
Nelly Furtado said Monday she, too, would donate the $1 million she received from the Gaddafi family to charity.
