A U.S. Marine was killed by a gunshot Tuesday morning while on duty in Washington, D.C., according to a Marine Corps news release. The incident, which happened within the Marine barracks, is under investigation and officials did not release any further information. But the Washington Post reported that the victim appeared to have been struck by an accidental discharge from another Marine’s weapon. “The command’s priorities are to take care of the Marine’s family and friends,” said Commanding Officer Don Tomich in the release. “We want to ensure these personnel are being provided for during this challenging time.”
