French actress Marion Cotillard spoke out Wednesday evening following tabloid reports that she had been carrying on an affair with Brad Pitt, which supposedly led Angelina Jolie to file for divorce from the actor. “This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into,” Cotillard wrote in an Instagram post. She described her partner, Guillaume Canet (who was previously married to Diane Kruger), as “my love, my best friend, the only one that I need,” noting that they have one child together and another on the way. To “those who have indicated that I am devastated,” she wrote, “I am very well thank you.” Finally, she added, “I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.” The New York Post’s Page Six was first to report that a “private eye” had allegedly uncovered a secret affair between Pitt and Cotillard, who co-star in this fall’s Allied together.
