At least 86 people were killed and 200 injured in a bombing of a crowded Peshawar, Pakistan market place as Hillary Clinton begins her first official visit to the country as secretary of State. A person on the scene described scattered bodies, which were badly burned. Pakistan is involved in a battle to remove Islamic militants from South Waziristan, the border region where many Taliban and al Qaeda fighters have taken refuge. Clinton arrived in Islamabad for a three-day visit, hoping to ease tensions in the country and show American support for Pakistan's fight against terrorism. Clinton's toughest challenge will be defending the recent American aid package—valued at $1.5 billion—which Paksitani officials have criticized for having too many requirements.
