Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident early Sunday morning, the team confirmed. The 24-year-old rising star died along with two others in the accident off the coast of Miami Beach, CBS Miami reported, adding that the boat crashed into rocks and was found upside down when rescue officials arrived. The Marlins’ game later Sunday against the Atlanta Braves is canceled, the team said. Fernandez was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2013, and earlier this year he became the fastest pitcher in history to record 500 strikeouts.
