William Christopher, the actor who played Father Mulcahy on the television show “M*A*S*H,” has died at the age of 84. He died at his Pasadena home on Saturday morning, becoming perhaps the last cultural icon to pass in 2016, just days after the loss of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. Christopher was diagnosed about 18 months ago with a small carcinoma, his son, John Christopher, told CNN. He said his father’s health began to deteriorate just a few weeks ago. The actor’s agent, Robert Malcolm, reassured fans that Christopher died peacefully and with no pain. Although Christopher began his career in several Broadway shows, he is most well-known for his portrayal of the chaplain on “M*A*S*H,” a popular show about Army surgeons that ran from 1972 to 1983.
