Thousands of people marched in Paris on Sunday to protest the country's new law which allows same-sex partners to wed. Demonstrators filled the French capital to denounce the law and to express their anger with President Francois Hollande, who made passing gay marriage a centerpiece of his campaign. Though the protests were largely peaceful, police clashed with several hundred protestors who were throwing bottles and used tear gas to break up some masked protestors. Roughly 150,000 people participated in the demonstration, according to police estimates, though organizers claimed on Twitter that their numbers exceeded one million.
