Massey Energy had never been one to let workplace safety interfere with corporate profits—but has it not changed even after 29 miners died at its Upper Big Branch Mine last year? The company was hit with more than 80 citations in the latest round of federal inspections, according to The Wall Street Journal. That’s nearly half of the total 166 violations issued for eight mines in five different states in February. Massey says it is working to improve mine safety.
