Floyd Mayweather dominated the previously-unbeaten Canelo Alvarez in the junior middleweight championship Saturday night—giving Mayweather a $41.5 million payday in Las Vegas in one of the richest events in boxing history. Mayweather came out swinging, pounding Alvarez hard in Rounds 1 and 2. Judge Dave Moretti gave Mayweather 116-112 win, Judge Craig Metcalf scored the match at 117-111, but the third judge, C.J. Ross, called it a tie, 114-114—causing many to scratch their heads. “I’m a little in shock, but everything is a learning experience,” Mayweather said about the third judge’s call. Mayweather landed 232 of the 505 punches, while Alverez hit only 117 of 526 punches.
