Is the race card a joker? Jonah Goldberg writes in today’s Los Angeles Times that "McCain has done nothing to fuel racism," and that contrary accusations are just new iterations in the Democrats' "long tradition of tarring opponents as the monolithic forces of hatred and prejudice while casting themselves as the enlightened proponents of peace, love, and decency." In fact, the McCain campaign has, if anything, been too conscious of Obama's race—going after him less hard than it would a white opponent. Hence Jeremiah Wright's conspicuous absence from the campaign.
