With Republicans taking control of the Senate, Mitch McConnell said he wants to find common ground with the president he's been fighting for the past six years. In 2009, he famously declared: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” On Wednesday, the new Senate majority leader sang a different tune: "When the American people choose divided government, I don’t think it means they don’t want us to do anything," adding, "We ought to start with the view there are things we can agree on to make progress with the country." That includes quickly sending President Obama bills to fast-track international trade agreements, repeal a tax on medical devices that funds Obamacare, and approve the Keystone XL pipeline. McConnell said there will be no government shutdowns or default on the national debt under his watch. Of course, the government was shut down by Republicans in 2013 in their quest to repeal Obamacare.
